Bicycle Friendly Community

Routt County Riders Bicycle Club is the "Bicycle Advisory Committee" for an initiative sponsored by the Steamboat Springs City Council. The aim is to make changes and implement an infrastructure that recognizes the needs of cyclists within the community. As the city continues to grow in this manner, the environment for cyclists can actually improve.
In 2008 Steamboat Springs was officially designated a SILVER LEVEL Bicycle Friendly Community, and our goal in 2011 is to see Steamboat Springs officially designated as a GOLD or PLATINUM Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Cyclists.
This initiative has had a positive impact on all levels of planning and development in Steamboat. Bicycle-friendly guidelines are now being applied to road resurfacing projects, bicycle lane development, and all public transportation issues.
Some of the potential benefits from this program are:
- Designated Cycling Routes throughout our community
- Bicycle lanes, painted on the road, incorporated into all major communter routes
- Safe ride-to-school routes for children
- Improved signage for cyclists
- Cycling tourism
